John Zack of Lower Makefield died peacefully in his home on Monday, January 2, 2017 in the loving presence of his children. He was 97. John was a resident of Lower Makefield and parishioner of St. Ignatius Church for 60 years. John's main focus in life was providing for his family. He was also the devoted husband of Helen for 66 years. He was a successful businessman, including founder and president of Delaware Valley Mold & Tool Company. Throughout his life, John excelled at competitive sports, playing semi-pro basketball at Madison Square and Boston Gardens in the 1940's. During WWII, he served as athletic director for the US Naval Training Station in Sampson, NY. He was a long-standing member of the Yardley Country Club. He delighted in sharing his landscaped gardens. In addition to owning a residence in Florida, he enjoyed traveling to many of the Caribbean islands with his wife. At one time, John proudly served as Vice President of the Lower Makefield Seniors. He was a strong advocate for the siting of the Lower Makefield Community/Senior Center. John was a master storyteller, entertaining his grandchildren with stories about the good old days. John will always be loved and missed by his daughter, Lorraine Tucker of Lower Makefield, PA, his son, John J. Zack of Punta Gorda, FL, and his daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Stephen Nolan of Medfield, MA. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, January 5 at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 South Delaware Road, Yardley, PA. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, January 6 at St. Ignatius Church, Reading Avenue, Yardley.
