John R. Borges of Lower Makefield Township, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the age of 71. Born in Trenton, NJ, on November 11, 1945, he married his childhood sweetheart in 1971 and eventually moved to Yardley, PA where they lived for the past forty years. John was a technology services manager in telecommunications, retiring after a full career with AT&T, followed by Lucent Technologies. He then continued working for an additional ten years for the State of New Jersey, Department of Health and Senior Services, retiring again in 2009. As an officer of the U.S. Navy, he honored our country serving overseas in Cuba and Spain. John was a proud member of the American Legion Knowles Doyle Post 317, Yardley and always enjoyed stopping in for a drink, some games and a few laughs. In his life, he had a knack for carpentry and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, collecting coins, a good breakfast, traveling and spending time with his family. John is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years, Barbara Szul Borges; his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Jill Borges Brousseau and Peter Brousseau of Fairless Hills, PA; two brothers and sister-in-laws, Robert F. and Beatrice Borges of Langhorne, PA, and William and Pauline Borges of Hamilton, NJ; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. and Elsie Borges; his brother, Richard Borges and niece, Ann Marie Borges. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church, 999 Reading Avenue, Yardley, PA. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 S. Delaware Avenue (River Road), Yardley. Barbara and Jill would like to extend a special thank you to all of the compassionate caregivers and staff at Spring Village of Floral Vale and Eleanor's Garden. There is no amount of gratitude that can be adequately expressed for the support you provided to our family.
