Martha T. Pelensky, 89, of Yardley, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital.
Martha was born in Ukraine to Olga and Zenon Pelensky on January 24, 1937. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1957 and after rigorous study and hard work, Martha became the first woman engineer at Mobil's Research and Development Corporation. She continued her education in chemical and electrical engineering, earning Master's degrees in both. She went on to develop programs using BASIC for Mobil refineries and continued as a Process Engineer and Project Manager for Mobil until 1993, handling major petroleum refinery jobs and overseas assignments. In 1993, she was granted a patent as the sole inventor for a multi-point temperature monitoring system in fixed-bed catalytic reactors.
After leaving Mobil, Martha worked as an independent contractor and for Cronin Development, where she worked on projects for NYC's MTA. Martha was a talented textile artist and won awards for her beautiful, intricate knitting and needlepoint. Martha was very active in the Ukrainian Museum in New York and in supporting Ukraine for decades.
She is mourned by her dear friend Maureen Cronin and family.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 10:30am. Interment will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Newtown. Visitation will be from 9:30am to 10:30am at the church.
