Mary Ellen Scheppach Obituary

Mary Ellen Andrews Scheppach, age 100, of Yardley, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 19, 2026. She was born on September 19, 1925, in Sullivan, Indiana. She will be remembered as an artist, her sketches and paintings capturing the flicker of sunlight through the trees, the wayward strand of hair stuck on a little cheek, the concentration of learning piano. She will be remembered as a woman of the church, volunteering to support her community and singing with the choir.

Mary Ellen will be remembered as the matriarch of the Scheppach family, never forgetting a birthday and knowing each caller by their voice and the way they called her Mom, Gram, Grandma, Great Gram, or Yaya. She will be remembered for always having an open seat at her puzzle table and for having a Chinese checkers strategy that's three steps ahead of yours, for reading stories out loud to her grandchildren, and for the way she rocked in her chair while paying attention to your story.

Mary Ellen is survived by her children: daughter Chris and her partner Jack, her son Mike and his wife Judy, her daughter Kathie and her husband Allan, and her daughter Jo and her husband Brook; her grandchildren: Debbie and her husband Michael, Drew and his wife Sarah, Alyssa, Amy and her husband George, Brook and his wife Sarah, Erin and her partner Jimmy; and her great-grandchildren: Maddie and her husband Greg, James, Nora, Alex, Kate; and her great-great-grandchildren: Montgomery and Penelope.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Morrisville Presbyterian Church 771 N. Pennsylvania Avenue Morrisville, PA 19067, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10am.

"I don't understand death. The biology of it, yes, but not what remains for the living. Pain and memory and an empty place. I think to fully get it, you have to feel it so profoundly that it upsets your sense of the world. It has to make you a little crazy. But it also has to make you love this miracle of existence to the point of bursting. If it doesn't, well, then you don't get it yet. Life prevails. How strange and wondrous. In the midst of death, life prevails, calls to us, begs us, says, Come, please, don't you dare waste this precious gift." – Kenney, John. I See You've Called in Dead. Zibby Publishing, 2025.
