Virginia J. Hoback Obituary
Virginia (Gina) Jackson Hoback passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and family. Born in Newark to the late John Earl Jackson and Virginia Morris Jackson, Gina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished friend to many. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, fierceness, I Love Lucy moments and dedication to her loved ones.
Gina is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Richard H. Hoback Jr. of Washington Crossing, PA. She was the loving mother of three daughters: Joanne Ferroni and her husband Paul, Kate Hoback and her husband Nicholas Evins and Lindsay Little and her husband Mario. Her grandchildren were the love of her life. She was a Gigi to Madison, Declan, Caelan, Jordan, Cole, Primo, Kyle, Luke, Jack and Tyler. She was also the proud great-grandmother to Jax. Gina was preceded in death by her parents, John and Virginia.
Gina grew up in Newark Delaware and was a graduate of Newark High School and the University of Delaware. She was a proud public school teacher in the Christina School District for many years. She went from catching kitchens on fire to a gourmet cook. She loved nothing more than trying new recipes from her multitude of cookbooks and baking with her grandchildren.
Some people have nine lives but Gina had triple that. She repeatedly defied the odds through her own special blend of fierce love for her family, refusal to be proven wrong, sass and spice. She never did anything half way and loved with her whole heart.
"She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings." — Ariana Dancu
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Grace Lawn Cemetery 2220 N Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE with a graveside service on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 12:30pm. A reception will follow at the Old New Castle Arsenal (30 Market Street, New Castle, DE).
Her life was forever changed through organ donation, the selfless gift of a kidney by Ed Ciociola and later by a stranger. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Donate Life Foundation in memory of Gina.
Arrangements are under the care of the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Avenue Yardley, PA 19067. Condolences for the family can be left at www.fitzgeraldsommerfuneralhome.com.
