George Sterling Coyne, II Obituary

George Sterling Coyne II, actor, husband and friend extraordinaire passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Known for his dry wit and boundless energy, he had an encyclopedic capacity to recall stories, names, histories and antidotes that would put Walter Mitchell or George M. Cohan to shame. Having an idyllic childhood in Abington, PA, where he played handbells and sang in the church choir, delivered weekly newspapers by bike, played keyboard in his rock and roll band, known as The Riot Squad, he transformed the whole neighborhood into his first audience, a place where everyone was eager to see this hard working boy with an enchanting smile.

A graduate of Berkshire School and Bennington College where he received a B.A. in Drama, he began his theater career at the Bucks County Playhouse, studied acting with Geraldine Page, John Strasberg, Shelly Winters, and Terry Schreiber at the T. Schreiber Studio. He performed many off Broadway shows, including Room Service, Bartleby, the Scrivener, and The Man who Came to Dinner. His film credits include The Postman Always Rings Twice-Paramount Pictures and Longtime Companion-Samuel Goldwyn. He appeared in Network television shows, Another World NBC, General Hospital ABC, and Law and Order NBC.

Above all, the cornerstone of George's being was his reverence for life, curiosity and compassion for others. A versatile man, he was a chef, land- developer, screenplay reviewer and astute businessman, who enjoyed memberships in The Lambs Club, The Players, The Amateur Comedy Club, The Episcopal Actors' Guild New York, NY, the Screen Actors Guild, Orpheus Club of Philadelphia, The New York Athletic Club, Playwrights First, The Quaker City Farmers and the Masonic University Lodge No. 51 of Philadelphia, PA.

Predeceased by his parents James Coyne Jr. and Pearl Coyne, he is survived by his adoring wife Karyn Coyne, brothers, Jim Coyne and wife Holly, Charles Coyne, Thomas Coyne and wife Erin, sisters- in-law Ireen Kudra-Miller, Tara M. Kudra along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private funeral Service will be held at Doylestown Presbyterian Church, Doylestown, PA. A celebration of George's life is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Clyde Barker Penn Transplant House, Philadelphia, PA.

Arrangements are under the care of the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Avenue Yardley, PA 19067.  Condolences for the family can be left at www.fitzgeraldsommerfuneralhome.com.
