Mary Ann Wagner Obituary

Mary Ann Harman Wagner of Mantoloking, NJ, died on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Madison, NJ. She was 94.


Born and raised in Trenton, NJ, the daughter of the late James Reginald Harman, MD and Anna Cole Harman, she was formerly of Lower Makefield Township, PA, and resided in Mantoloking for the past 29 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Val R. Wagner, in 2019.


Mary Ann attended high school at Abbot Academy and The Ogontz School from which she graduated in 1949. She earned her college degree in Sociology from Colorado College in 1953 where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and music director of The Buzzin’ Dozen, a women’s acapella group. Following graduation, she moved to New York City where she worked for Time Life, Inc.


A talented athlete, she enjoyed tennis, water skiing, snow skiing, and was the New Jersey State Ladies Trapshooting Champion in 1957. She met Val during a ski trip in Europe and they married in 1957, settling in Lower Makefield Township where they raised their two children.  In 1967 Mary Ann joined the New Jersey State Museum as a guide where she presented planetarium shows and led visitor tours. She then joined Bristol Myers Squibb where she worked for 25 years, retiring in 1996 as Manager of Marketing Research.


Mary Ann was a fabulous cook, specializing in French cuisine, to the delight of her family and many friends. She also enjoyed needlepoint and played bridge for many years, achieving the American Contract Bridge League’s rank of Silver Life Master. She was a long-time member of the Bay Head Yacht Club.


She is survived by her sister Catherine H. White of Savannah, GA; her son and daughter-in-law Val H. Wagner and Megan Watt of Madison, NJ; her daughter Bonne W. Rawley of Lawrenceville, NJ; and five grandsons, David Rawley, John Rawley, Clark Wagner, Cole Wagner, and Val H. Wagner, Jr.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026,  at the Ewing Presbyterian Church, 100 Scotch Road, Ewing, NJ, where friends may call from 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
