Obituary of Gordon G. Kensler

Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gordon George Kensler passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025, at the age of 82 at Jefferson Bucks Hospital, following complications related to lung cancer. He was born at Helene Fuld Hospital in Trenton, NJ on December 16, 1942, and grew up in Fieldsboro, NJ. Gordon was the son of Catherine (Githens) and Joseph Kensler. He was the last surviving sibling of Catherine Prokop, Rose Marie Kensler, Joseph Kensler, and Edward Kensler (his twin). He graduated from William Mac Farland High School in 1962. In 1967, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1970, having served in the Philippines and flown missions to retrieve injured and fallen soldiers in Vietnam. In 1975, he reunited with and fell in love with his soulmate, Barbara Ford, and they married that same year. Gordon became the father of John and Kenneth Applegate, both of whom are now deceased. He later welcomed his youngest son, David Kensler, in 1977. Gordon is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Ashley Debnam, Nicole Glover, Johnny Applegate, Shawna Applegate-Rusnak, Erich Applegate, Rhianna Applegate, and Rafael Ernesto Valle. He is remembered by his niece, Rose Marie Wilcox Kensler, and his nephews: Tom Prokop, Edward Kensler, Donald Kensler, and Ronald Wildblood. He will be greatly missed by his wife Barbara, his son David, and his son-in-law Ernesto Valle. Gordon worked and eventually retired from the State of New Jersey, where he served as a direct care worker for individuals with developmental disabilities at the New Lisbon Developmental Center and as a groundskeeper in the maintenance office. A passionate sports fan, Gordon loved the Phillies and Eagles, and he particularly enjoyed watching the Eagles win the Super Bowl this year. He was an avid fan of old-time rock 'n' roll, especially Elvis Presley. He also enjoyed camping and backpacking with his wife Barbara when they were younger. The funeral service will be held at FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, located at 17 S. Delaware Avenue, Yardley, PA, on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 11 AM. Visitation will take place from 5 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025, and from 10 AM to 11 AM on Friday, April 18, 2025, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Bordentown Cemetery located at 210 Crosswicks Road, Bordentown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Gordon's honor to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
