Obituary of Charles T. Magee
Charles T. Magee (Charlie), 90, of Yardley, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on April 24, 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marie (Quimby).
Charlie was born in Philadelphia on May 4, 1934, to Marie (Kinsinger) and Charles B. Magee, and grew up in the Germantown section of the city where he attended St. Benedict Catholic School. He spent much of his youth in New Hope, PA, where he enjoyed care-free days on the Delaware River and at Bowman’s Tower. He graduated from Northeast Catholic High School for Boys in 1952. It was there, as a drummer in the orchestra, he met the love of his life, Marie, during a school musical. They married in November 1957, settled in Northeast Philadelphia and had three children. He was a long-time member of St. Jerome Parish.
A proud U.S. military veteran, Charlie served in both the Army (3rd Armored Division) and Navy. He worked for 35 years at Rohm and Haas as a pipe fitter and chemical fire fighter. During his tenure there, he made many life-long friends and was a regular attendee at the monthly Rohm and Haas alumni breakfasts. A devout Catholic, even as he reached old age, Charlie knelt down by his bed to say his nightly prayers as his body allowed; he passed away with his rosaries in his hand.
His greatest joy was his family and friends. He always offered a charming story and hilarious jokes. He treated everyone equally; when he spoke to you it was as if you were the only person in the room. He became a surrogate father, grandfather and uncle to many of his younger friends and family, and made a habit of calling loved ones on their birthdays to sing Happy Birthday.
Charlie was the proud “little” brother to the late Edith (Ramuno) and “big” brother to the late Laurette “Dolly” (Flanagan). He is survived by his devoted daughter Mary of Yardley, PA, and sons Michael (Kate) of Holland, PA, and Daniel of Philadelphia, PA; his grandchildren, who called him “Pop Pop Wonderful,” Meghan (Harry), Rachel, Jesse (Patrick) and Michael; nieces and nephews, who referred to him as “Big Chuck;” friends and neighbors; and his constant companion Bailey, his Yorkie.
The funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 752 Big Oak Rd., Morrisville, PA 19067. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Project Home (1515 Fairmount Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19130), The American Legion Post 317 (215 S. Main St. Yardley, PA 19067), or Heartland Hospice (333 E. City Ave. Suite 401 Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004).
