Mark and family, we share in your sorrow and rejoice in the beauty that Hope brought to all she met. While time and miles may separate us, Hope's grace, warmth, and caring approach for all she met remain with me. We were classmates at Agnes Scott College and reconnected over the years at various reunions and on Zoom. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you to lift you up as you walk through the coming weeks and months. Her legacy will surely live through so many whom she encountered, influenced, encouraged and loved.

I feel truly privileged to have known, befriended, worked alongside Hope Westphal. She was the epitome of professionalism and dedication, always giving her all with unwavering commitment. Even during her illness, she carried herself with such grace and a radiant smile that no one could have guessed the battles she faced. Over time, we grew to be good friends, and I’ll forever cherish the memories we shared—like the incredible spread of dishes, appetizers, and desserts she lovingly prepared when she welcomed us into her home.
It’s hard to believe she left us so soon. This photo was taken on April 12; she was glowing, cheerful, and warm. No one could have guessed she had only 15 days left. Her light will live on in our hearts forever.
Fondly,
Navdeep

I had the pleasure of knowing Hope, as we both worked for the BCIU. Although we supported children in different classrooms, I would often chat with Hope when the opportunity was available - what a kind and wonderful woman! I admired her dedication, kindness, patience and professionalism. Hope's rapport with her students was heartwarming. She was completely dedicated to her students, as well as being a caring and thoughtful co-worker. I send my condolences and prayers to her family and friends during this difficult time of loss.
Sincerely,
Cathy DeBlieck

As a BCIU teacher, I had the pleasure to work with Hope. She was always pleasant, smiling and had a kind word for everyone she encountered. Her skills in working with the children of special needs were wonderful. Hope treated students with kindness, compassion and respect, even when a student was upset.
It was a pleasure to be in her company.
She will be missed.
Fondly,

I worked with Hope for several years. She was an outstanding staff member. Hope was dedicated to helping the students she worked with and was an excellent team player. She never complained and was a positive influence who could be counted on day in and day out to put her students needs first. She was a true professional and will be sorely missed.

I only knew Hope a short while. We met at the start of the school year. She was great at her job. Her patience, and kindness that she showed every student, everyday, never went unnoticed. Her natural warmness drew people in and her way of listening kept her with great friends and family. She will be greatly missed.

Hope was truly one of a kind! I have had the privledge of working with her over the last year and a half. Hope and I just recently have had many conversations regarding our husbands, her son, and their background of the services. She was the most dedicated paraprofessional to her students that I have ever seen. She will truly be missed by all of her coworkers and students at the IU. May you rest in peace and continue to shine down on your family and friends. Prayers to Hope's family during this difficult time.

So many warm memories, hard to choose which one. However, I think the most important is that has left a mark on our hearts . We are better people for having known her. You are all in our prayers.

I remember last summer when Hope and I had walked through the neighborhood and told me about all the different strategies she would employ for her upcoming medical treatments in a positive, proactive way. That is Hope: confident, armed with her newly found research, positive. I admired her bravery and encouraged her to talk to our other "bookmates" who had fought similar battles.
In my mind, I picture Hope at the town pool, standing tall, wearing a rash guard long before people thought of the deleterious effects of the sun, ready for her almost daily swim. She is the picture of grace and beauty, inside and out.
