Francis Peter Leonardo, age 74, passed into eternal life on July 1, 2025, at Arden Courts of Yardley where he had been cared for lovingly for the past 19 months. Born in Philadelphia, he was a long time Yardley, PA resident.
Frank was a graduate of Cabrini College and pursued his graduate studies at Medical College of Philadelphia, Penn State and the Institute of Food Technologies. He was a career-long member of many Microbiological and Infectious Disease Professional Societies and was often invited to deliver presentations and seminars at local Colleges and Universities.
Frank was employed at Tastykake, followed by many years with Aramark Corporation. In that capacity, he travelled extensively, inspecting suppliers, training staff and investigating potential foodborne illnesses. Some of the highlights of Frank’s career include planning, implementing and supervising the Food Service operations for three Olympic Games - Atlanta, Greece and Beijing, as well as a Republican National Convention.
Frank was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and excelled at sports trivia even in his declining years. He also loved music and truly enjoyed the live entertainment and activities provided at Arden; kudos to Katie Morris and her staff. His overwhelming joy in life was family time with our children and grandchildren. He loved nothing more than a ‘campout’ on the family room floor watching a scary movie. We will also cherish our many summers with the ‘grands’ at Brookside Swim Club.
Son of the late Peter Leonardo and Ethel Fortunato (nee Lang), he is predeceased by his beloved sister, Marie Sosdorf, with whom he shared a very special bond.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Leonardo, daughter, Kristen Leonardo (Jason), son Michael Leonardo (Lauren), stepdaughter Jennifer Brandt (David) and stepson William DeAngelis, brother, James Leonardo, grandchildren Brandon Duffin, Christian Brandt, Jenna Duffin, Tyler Brandt, and Julian Leonardo and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 11:00am at St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church 999 Reading Avenue Yardley. Calling hours will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am at the church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Arrangements are under the care of the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Avenue Yardley, PA 19067. Condolences for the family can be left at www.fitzgeraldsommerfuneralhome.com.
