Bernard McCullough Rice went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 11, 2025, just 22 days after celebrating his 101st birthday.
Bernard, aka Bernie, Snook, Dad and PopPop, was born and raised in Linthicum, Maryland.
He graduated from Calvert Hall College Catholic High School and later graduated from the University of Maryland School of Business. He was married to Norma Wise for 72 years. They raised their four children in Severna Park, Maryland; Cynthia Rice Hardie (Robert, and sons Robert McCullough and Brent), Susan Rice Gagne (Roy, and daughters Emily and Alison), Bernard McCullough Rice Jr. (Laura, and sons Nicholas, Benjamin, and Alexander), Michael Southworth Rice (Patricia, and sons, Tyler and Paul).
Bernie enjoyed sailing on the Severn River, golfing, traveling and spending time with his friends and family which included nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Bernard was Vice President and Treasurer of the Paul-Rice Engineering Company in Baltimore, Maryland. Following his retirement, he and Norma moved to Singer Island, Florida. Their final residence was the Oxford Senior Living Facility in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Norma preceded him in death in 2020.
Bernie took great pride in having served as a Quartermaster in the United States Navy during WWII. He was assigned to the USS New Kent 217 in the Pacific Theater. He loved sharing his Navy stories!
Everyone enjoyed his good nature, his great humor, and teased him about the little idiosyncrasies that we held dear. He was a true gentleman as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. He will be missed by all.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 28, 2025, at 11:30am at St. Andrew Catholic Church 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30am at the church.
