It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cornell E. Hess, who left us peacefully on August 3, 2025 at the age of 85.
Born in Trenton, NJ in 1940, Cornell was a proud graduate of Trenton Catholic High School. Trenton Catholic High School's basketball team was known for its excellence as Cornell led the team to two state championships. He furthered his education and athletic career at Fordham University, graduating in 1962. He then went on to join the Army Reserve and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Outside of his professional life, mostly in NY City he found joy in golf and hanging out at the Yardley American Legion. He spent many years helping the sick and volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital. Cornell was a real “people person” and ended his career at age 82 behind the deli counter taking sandwich orders and making customers laugh.
He was a cherished father to his two children, Cornell J. Hess and Nicole C. McGinn, & step-son, Adam Greenspan and a beloved grandfather to his five grandchildren, Sean, Lauren, Kyle, Michael & Nora, brother, Douglas Hess, nieces, Hillary Hess and Heidimarie Gilkes. His presence in their lives will be deeply missed.
Cornell’s memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and dedication that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Cornell’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Saint Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery No.2, Hamilton, NJ where he will be laid to rest with his mother, Mary A. Hess and sister Arlene Hess.
