Mary Patricia "Marypat" Leary Obituary

Sadly, we share the news that Marypat Leary recently passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, at her home in Yardley, PA at the age of 70.

Marypat was born at St. Vincent's Hospital, NYC on March 18, 1955, to her loving parents, the late Walter D. and Frances (Moore) Leary of Fort Lee, New Jersey. She enjoyed a very happy childhood in the company of many dear friends and family members, chief among them being her younger brother, the late Kevin W. Leary of Westwood, MA.

In her early twenties, Marypat lived in California, and thought nothing of driving cross-country alone, accompanied by her two well-loved Newfoundlands. She then returned to New Jersey, where she lived for many years, and eventually made her way to Yardley, Bucks County, PA. It is an area that she loved deeply due to its rich arts and cultural community, many historic sites, and, most of all, its natural beauty and scenic countryside.

Marypat had many interests. To name a few, she was a lover of music (especially the Beatles and James Taylor), literature, cooking, gardening, travel, nature, and the ocean, and had a lifetime passion for art, being quite an accomplished stained glass artist in her own right when she was young. An avid and voracious reader, she was known to have an ever-changing stack of books by her side, as did her father. Marypat was also a world traveler, with a particular fondness for England and the royal family.

She enjoyed a long, successful career in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, with expertise in Interactive Response Technology for clinical research, and retired from Pfizer Inc. in 2021. Marypat was held in high esteem by her colleagues and peers as a person of outstanding integrity, with sharp intellect and insight, and a work ethic second to none.

Above all, Marypat loved her family and friends who will miss her terribly and will love her forever. These include many cousins (Bihrle, Moore, Crowe, Schneider and Haray) and their families, her sister-in-law, Suzanne Kreinsen (Kevin), and her cherished, lifelong friend, Lisa Lehman Trager. None of us will forget Marypat's love, kindness, generosity and devotion to others, as well as her wonderful sense of humor. She was predeceased by her beloved parents and brother, Kevin.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in honor of Marypat to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Visitation will be held at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 S. Delaware Avenue Yardley, PA 19067 on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 4 – 7pm.
