Obituary of Mary A. Fazzalore
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Lombardi Fazzalore peacefully passed away December 3, 2016, one day after observing her 91st birthday, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania to John and Olivia Lombardi, she resided in Lower Makefield Township for nearly fifty years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Pauline ("Polly").
Mary was raised in Sharpsville, graduating 2nd in her high school class, and promptly entered the World War II-era working world. Mary was married for 66 years to Frank J. Fazzalore, and the two were inseparable for their entire married life. The two not only raised two daughters, but spent much time traveling the world, often with their devoted friends Vito and Kathryn Marseglia (Mary now joins her dear friend Kathryn in heaven, catching up with one another and laughing together). Devoted to her family, faith and community, Mary is survived by her loving daughters, Mary Frances and Jamie, her grandsons, Tyler Belinsky and Trevor Belinsky, her former son-in-law, Martial Belinsky, and her son-in-law, David Truelove. She is also survived by her brother , Rocco Lombard (Ann) of California, and several nieces and nephews throughout the country.
Mary was an avid knitter, needlepointer and advanced seamstress. She baked her own bread, made her own pasta, and was renowned for her annual large array of Italian Christmas cookies. She will be missed on Wednesdays at the Lower Makefield Township building, where she played bridge with her fellow senior citizens.
Tiny in stature, Mary possessed a huge heart. She was a loyal congregant of St. Ignatius of Antioch Church and Parish in Yardley, and was an active member of the Lower Makefield Senior Citizens Group, the Lower Makefield Women's Club (where she served as treasurer), the Lower Makefield Republican Club, and the Sons of Italy. She quietly worked to improve the lives of many others, exemplifying the tenet of "Cura Personalis": ("Care for the Individual Person"), respecting each person as a child of God and all of God's creations. While others profess faith, Mary actively lived faith. Mary was honored with the Chaplain of the Four Chaplains Award from the Knights of Columbus for her outstanding service to the Catholic community. She volunteered countless hours at the church, doing laundry and ironing the communion clothes and the priests' vestments.
Mary's marriage to Frank was a partnership: while he ascended to many successful levels in the business world, she maintained the family through many moves and relocations, in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois and Colorado. A fantastic cook, she taught her daughters the art of Italian cooking: sauces, pastas, breads and desserts. When her daughters were young, she made them beautiful articles of clothing, and served as a Girl Scout mom. Her daughters were always sure of enjoying a homemade hot snack when they came home from school. She supported her daughters in their various personal and work endeavors, and was immensely proud of their accomplishments. Her shining stars were her grandsons, Tyler and Trevor, and she was thrilled to babysit them when young, playing games and spoiling them. The values and love she instilled in them are integral to their growth and development as hard-working, compassionate young men.
Mary will also be greatly missed by her many friends at St. Ignatius, where she faithfully attended daily Mass.
One of many of the definitions of "Saint" is "one who has an exceptional holiness or likeness to God." Mary was a Saint on earth, and now has been greeted by God with open arms.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1pm Friday December 9th at St. Ignatius Church, 999 Reading Avenue in Yardley, PA. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may from 5pm to 8pm Thursday at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 S. Delaware Avenue (River Road), Yardley, and from 11:30am to 12:45pm Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mary's name to the St. Ignatius of Antioch School, or to a scholarship fund in Mary's name at the Bucks County Community College Foundation.
