Obituary of Dolores C. Hovick

Please share a memory of Dolores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dolores Catherine Hovick of Yardley Pennsylvania passed away on March 31, 2021 after a brief illness.

Dolores, or Dee, was a spirited and opinionated woman. Dee was always very guarded about her age. So much so, that she told everyone her birthday was June 13, when in reality it was June 12. When asked why there was this deception with her birthday, she stated “People will think I’m younger than I really am.” Dolores grew up during the Great Depression in Plymouth Pennsylvania, in the heart of coal mining territory. Life was difficult for everybody back then, and Dolores’s life was no different. She was raised by an abandoned single mother with four children. Despite life’s difficulties, she grew up with a strong sense of family which carried with her for the rest of her life.

She was preceded in death by her mother Stella, her brothers Alfie and Ed and her sister Eleanor.

Dee spent the majority of her adult life in Yardley Pennsylvania with her husband of 66 years Theodore (Ted). There, the two of them raised their three sons: Ted Jr, Ed, and Jimmy (d. 2007). Dolores and Ted were the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Dolores could make friends with anybody, and often did. She could befriend a person standing in line at the grocery store, or other exercisers working out at the gym. Dee always wanted to help. If friends were sick or in need, Dolores provided her own personal “meals on wheels.” Whatever social gathering she attended, Dee was the mayor of the room. Despite Dolores’s love of social gatherings, she adamantly desired no type of funeral or service. “I don’t want anybody to make a fuss,” were her words. However, Dee said nothing about not having a party, so a summer bash is planned for friends and family to sit around and tell stories. The family asks that any remembrances of Dolores be in the form of donations to: Woodside Meals on Wheels, 1382 Newtown-Langhorne Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
