Paul Carney posted a condolence

Ginny and family,
We are sorry for the passing of John. My experience at A&C is so memorable because of John. I so loved our quarterly meetings first to hear his latest jokes, to share the books he has read and to witness his knowledge and passion for the paper industry.
His remarkable innovations and drive to move our business forward was unique.
And Bonnie and I so enjoy the trips we traveled with John and you specifically his reaction to your shopping excursions.
I remember the night John and Bonnie agreed they should be allowed to “shoot out the tires of bad drivers!”
A remarkable man truly missed.
Paul & Bonnie Carney

Robert Behrens posted a condolence

When I look back upon our days at Alling and Cory what was created for one brief shining moment was our own Camelot. 13th and Lehigh would certainly be an incongruous place for an idyllic happening but it was all made possible by Our own JFK, John Maddock. He was a man possessed with an unusual personal charm and a vibrant joie de vivre that was diffused through out the company. The best and the brightest of sales and staff were able to flourish under him because he lacked no rigidity and dogmatic views of how things should be done. Because of his passion and inquiring mind he became a force majeure in the paper world and a truly transcendent experience to work for him. He will never be forgotten by anybody whoever worked for him or with him Robert Behrens

My heartfelt sympathies and prayers are with you all. John was a leader and people person in every sense. His fiery salesmanship made Alling & Cory the beacon in the 80's & 90's. I was blessed to have been his right hand at Winchell where John's presence was felt from pressroom to executive offices. His wisdom & sharp sense of business gravitated people to him. I treasure my friendship with him most of all. All the interactions we've shared & his calls from wherever he was always made me smile. One quest of "where's the best hamburgers in USA at?" was the best. Whether eating at Fuddruckers with him or the calls from ??? he reported his opinions. John was one of a kind! Once his friend always his friend. May God's peace surround & comfort Ginny & family. Rest in Peace. My Mr Maddock. Tracy Misko

John was a special man as we all know.
As a young buyer of paper it was my privilege to be taught buy a true pro, no matter what his approach was.
He knew what he was talking about always. If he didn’t he remained quiet.
Of all the things I remember about John his voice and it’s inflections stand out most clearly in my mind. I wish he could be with us now as I’m sure we all do. My existence was made much better through his friendship and advice for which I will remain very thankful.

Dear Virginia and Maddock Girls,
I loved your Dad!
I’ll never forgot those touch football games with Chuck Delehey and Bob Van Buren!
Your Dad had a special charisma that will always be etched in my memory.
My thoughts and prayers are with you but his spirit will always be close by.
Best,
Ham Mantz
