Obituary of Mary Ann Mumford

Mary Ann Mumford, 88, of Yardley, Pa., formerly of Montclair, NJ, died September 22, 2021 at The Birches at Newtown.

Born in Oakland, CA on May 2, 1933, Mrs. Mumford moved to the east coast and was graduated from Montclair High School in 1951. She later attended Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington, D.C., and was graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School in Montclair.

Mrs. Mumford worked for more than 15 years as a secretary for a private medical practice in Glen Ridge, NJ, retiring in 1993. She was a former member of the Junior League of Montclair, Montclair Golf Club and First Congregational Church in Montclair.

Mrs. Mumford was a long-time volunteer in the pediatric ward at Mountainside Hospital and with the New York Road Runners Club. 

Married in 1953, she is predeceased by her spouse of 61 years, Frederick Albert Mumford Jr. She is survived by: her sister, Eleanor Haines (Mervyn) of Schooley’s Mountain, NJ; three sons, John G. of Houston, TX, William T. (Rosemary), of Humble, TX, and Frederick A. III (Mindy) of Yardley, PA; and, four grandchildren, Meaghan, Thomas, Jackson and Camille.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date with burial at Washington Crossing National Cemetery with her husband who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
