Aileen C. Koopman Obituary

Aileen C. Koopman, 81, of Yardley, PA, passed away on August 4, 2023.

Andrew Frederick and Ethyl Mae (Farmer) Kmetzo welcomed Aileen Carol into this world in Trenton, NJ on June 19,1942. The family name was changed to Kendall when her brother Andrew received his Military Officer's Commission. Aileen was raised in Cranford, NJ attending St Michael's Catholic School and graduating from CHS in 1960. Her undergraduate degree was earned at Douglas College for Women @ Rutgers University (1964), and later in life a Masters in Elementary Education from Chestnut Hill College.

Aileen worked several years at Strawbridge & Clothier before raising 4 children in

Plymouth/Whitemarsh Twp. area with her 1st husband, Edward Tenthoff. She was active in the Women's Club and PTA while raising her children. After earning her Master's, she did a short stint teaching elementary school and then went to work at Vanguard Investment Services until retirement in 2009.

At her 40th Cranford HS reunion Aileen reconnected with the "1st guy I ever dated in high school", Cornelius W. Koopman (Neil). She joined Neil in Lower Makefield Twp. and became an active member of Makefield Womens Association and Lower Makefield Seniors. She led a group of knitters producing stump socks for VA hospital amputees and caps and scarves for Trenton elementary school students in need of warm winter clothing. Aileen and Neil enjoyed more than 20 years together "seeing the USA in their Chevrolet", annual family gatherings in Edisto Beach, SC and back yard game dinners and bar-b-q gatherings with friends and family.

Thank you to the dedicated health care workers who helped care for Aileen at Yardley Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center for the past year. And to St. Mary Hospital staff who helped us ensure her comfort together as a family when she peacefully departed this life.

Aileen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother "Babe". She is survived by husband Neil Koopman of Lower Makefield Twp., brother Andrew Kendall, Col. USAF (retired) of New Albany, OH, nephew, Drew Kendall of Gainsville, GA, Carol (Kendall) & Tim Hutcherson of Redondo Beach, CA, former husband Edward Tenthoff, son Edward A. & Susan (Baker) Tenthoff of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, daughter Dr. Anne C.
