Josephine Elizabeth June, née Popson December 1, 1929 – October 2, 2023 On Tuesday afternoon, October 2, 2023, Josephine Elizabeth June, née Popson of Morrisville, PA passed away peacefully at home. Adored and loved by everyone who knew her, she was surrounded by her immediate family in her final days. Josephine was preceded in death in 2021 by her husband, Matthew J. June, Sr. She is survived by brothers John Popson of Durham, NC and Michael Popson of Swoyersville, PA; one daughter Josephine Watson (James) who lives in Morrisville, PA; two sons, David (Debra) who also lives in Morrisville; and Matthew, who lives in Camp Hill, PA; along with seven grandchildren, Jim, Mike (Tiffany), Matt (Sasha), Jen (Justin), Jake, Kristen (Kevin), and Lauren (Tom); and eleven great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, James, Charlotte, Michael, Madeline, Josephine, Jasper, Avery, Justin Jr., Eva, and Harper. A dedicated and loving family member, Josephine was known by "Jo" or "Josie" to her husband, sisters, brothers, and friends, "Grandmom" or "Grammy" to her grandchildren and "NaNa" to her great-grandchildren. All of those names, founded in love, signify the beautiful life she led. Josephine was also a longtime parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Morrisville. Josephine was born on December 1, 1929, in the city of Swoyersville, Luzerne County, PA. She is the daughter of Joseph Popson and Elizabeth Stefanko, and represented the best of what has become known as the Greatest Generation. After surviving the Great Depression with her family, she graduated from Swoyersville High School, where she met the love of her life, Matt (Skip). They were married in 1948 and celebrated seventy-two wedding anniversaries together before he passed. Typical of this generation, she believed in the family unit and hard work, and set out with her husband to build their American Dream, venturing to the Yardley-Morrisville area. With an infectious laugh that could fill any room, Josie was a dedicated wife and loving mother who not only took care of the home but could also be found working a part-time job at a school or a shop. People she encountered were drawn to her because she was a lovely, friendly, open, funny, and strong woman who liked having a conversation about anything. Besides spending time with family, Josie enjoyed reading, arts and crafts projects, holidays, seaside vacations, and especially visits from her grandchildren. Our hearts lift in gratitude for the richness and inspiration she brought to our lives as we raise our families. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 10:00am at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Ave. Yardley, PA 19067. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00am to 10:00am at the funeral home. Interment in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA, will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Serenity Hospice of PA at 3331 Street Road, Bensalem PA, 19020 in memory of Josephine June. We love you, Mom. Be with Dad as we look forward to seeing you both again.
