Obituary of Brian P. McMahon

Please share a memory of Brian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Monday, February 26, 2024, Brian McMahon, of Morrisville, PA, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 70.

Brian was born on December 28, 1953 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, to Francis M. and Catherine (Best) McMahon. Brian spent his childhood and school-age years in a wide range of places, including Berlin, West Germany, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Trenton State University (nka The College of New Jersey), where he met the love of his life, his wife Kathy. He married his soulmate, Kathy, in 1980, and they were married for nearly 44 years and together for 50 years.

Brian was a voracious reader, film buff, and music lover. He loved to expand his mind through all manner of books, particularly any non-fiction WWII books and novels. He adored great films, often quoting the Godfather and Marx Brothers movies (he once belted out the Marx Brother song "Lydia, the Tattooed Lady" while celebrating his son's college graduation at a local pub).

He had a love of history and told entertaining stories (sometimes with a hint of exaggeration). Even in his last few days, he told stories from throughout his life, and he had a vivid dream where he was in the movie Lawrence of Arabia, driving a camel train with Alec Guinness.

Most of all, he was a devoted and model husband, father, and grandfather who instilled in those around him a love for life. He cherished the warm embrace of his family and found comfort whenever surrounded by conversation and laughter. He never stopped absorbing the love coming from those around him, and he returned it in kind. He never stopped being Brian.

Funny, intelligent, loving. There is so much more that should be said, but in the end, what he did was make our world brighter. We love and miss you, Brian.

Brian was preceded in death by his father, Francis, and his mother, Catherine. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, and his two children: Kelly Farace (husband Dan Kummer and sons Vincent Farace and Max Farace), and Jeff McMahon (wife Felicia Rau and daughter Kennedy McMahon and son Brody McMahon); as well as his sister Colleen Dove, Niece Amy (Dove) Crohe, sister-in-law Sharon Larson, extended family, and beloved dogs Phoebe and Pippa.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, at 11:30 AM at FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 S Delaware Ave, Yardley, PA 19067. Friends and relatives can visit with the family from 10:00am to 11:30am at the funeral home.
