Obituary of Thomas J. Taylor

Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Thomas J. Taylor died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 88, on Friday, June 7, 2024. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he moved to Bergen County, NJ in 1970 where he and his late wife Claire, raised their 6 children. For the past 15 years, he has been a resident of Lower Makefield Township.

Tom worked on Wall Street most of his life, starting a career in Finance at DuPont. He flourished at EF Hutton and became Vice President in the Municipal Bond department eventually retiring with Shearson-Smith Barney. He was an avid sports fan and spent many years coaching Little League and CYO programs. Tom was a Giants season ticket holder for over 50 years, he loved the Brooklyn Dodgers and after their departure stayed true to his roots by being a faithful Mets fan. A man of faith, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former Grand Knight. Tom was physically active and intellectually engaged up until his final days. He enjoyed bowling three times a week and was a member of the Cherries, Championship Seniors Bowling team. He never missed the weekly team breakfasts and greatly cherished his teammates and those friendships. He texted and faced time with his children and grandchildren every day. He loved to talk politics, listen to music, read books, and work on 1000-piece puzzles as he ate his favorite Oreos. Tom always stopped whatever he was doing to listen to a story or give advice, he had an open heart for everyone. He truly loved his life.

Tom is preceded in death by his mother Anne Bridget, father Thomas and wife of 59 years, Claire Veronica. He is survived by his 6 children, daughter Claire Herrera (Nelson), daughter Patricia O'Hora (Kevin), son Thomas W., (Ailene), daughter Maureen Jones (Joseph), son James (Ginnie), son Patrick (Dana), 17 adoring grandchildren and quite a few first and second cousins.
