Dear Haugh Family,
I wanted to express my deepest condolences on the passing of Mrs. Haugh. I had the privilege of being in her History class at SMT and I will always remember her passion for history, which I shared, as well, even to this day. In fact, thanks to her, I can still recite the preamble to the Constitution because we all had to spend weeks memorizing it to pass that test for her! She was a true inspiration to her students and also always very real and funny too. I’m so sorry for your loss, but please remember her legacy lives on in you and all the students she taught throughout the years.
Sincerely,
Bridget Carpenter MacDonald

I was in Mrs. Haugh’s 8th grade History class on 9/11. It is a memory that will forever be burned in my mind not only because it was 9/11 but I feel like being in Mrs. Haugh’s class at that moment, She kept us calm and in spite of uncertainty she made us feel safe in that moment. Thank you Mrs. Haugh for being an amazing teacher. I would have to say she was one of the very best teachers I ever had. I still love learning history and I believe it’s because of her teaching style. My prayers go out to her family and everyone’s heart she touched.

Mrs. Haugh’s family,
I had the privilege of attending SMT and the additional privilege of having your Mom for Social Studies and reading in 7th grade. To this day when there is a storm, I think of Mrs. Haugh standing in the doorway, holding her coffee mug with both hands because she was scared of the storm. She was someone who seemed so fearless to me yet she was comfortable in sharing with her students her vulnerability and fears. We used to talk about cheerleading and soap operas which I thought was so cool! Sending my deepest condolences and prayers to you all during this difficult time.

Q: What will you never forget about Sharon?
A: Dear Haugh Family,
I wanted to share a memory of my former teacher Mrs. Haugh that I had the privilege of learning from in 5th and 7th grade at St. Martin of Tours. She brought American History to life every day through her creative teaching style. I remember one day she had us create paper snowflakes and throw them out the window in hopes of a snow day.
Mrs. Haugh had a wonderful way of making her lessons engaging and relatable. She often shared humorous stories about her family that made her so relatable to me. She had very high expectations for all of her students. I still remember her legendary assignment to memorize the Preamble to the Constitution. On a lighter note, I enjoyed our recess conversations about ABC Soap Operas.
Early on in my teaching career, I was having a difficult day teaching at a Philly Public School and by chance I ran into Mrs. Haugh while picking up my little sister at SMT. She gave me a great pep talk reminding me of the positive difference you can make in a child’s life and she told me I would be a wonderful teacher. Her encouragement really helped me that day.
I now have been teaching 26 years and I think of her often especially this past year when I was teaching American History and Government for the first time.
Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. Mrs. Haugh was a true inspiration to me, my sister and brother. Her legacy lives on in all the lives she touched.
Sincerely,
Jen Carpenter Livingston
