Obituary of Eileen M. O'Byrne
Please share a memory of Eileen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eileen Marie O'Byrne, former elementary school teacher and resident of Yardley, PA went home to God on Saturday October 12th, at St. Mary's Hospital in Langhorne, PA.
Born in 1931 in Trenton, NJ, Eileen graduated from Cathedral High School in Trenton. She then entered the convent of the Sisters of Mercy in September of 1949 where she spent over 2 years preparing for her vows. During this time, she was assigned teaching duties in Atlantic City and at the Academy of the Motherhouse.
Health issues prompted Eileen to leave the convent and in 1952 she returned to secular life as a dental receptionist and then as a catholic school kindergarten teacher. In 1958 she earned a Bachelor's Degree from Trenton State College and began her work in the Pennsbury School District. While teaching at Pennsbury where she "met the man of my dreams", Edward Joseph O'Byrne (deceased). She and Edward raised 5 boys and remained married for 49 years.
During Eileen's employment with the Pennsbury School District she taught 1st
grade in both the Edgewood and Makefield Elementary Schools. For a number of years after retirement Eileen volunteered as a reading specialist at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in Lower Makefield Township, where she was a dedicated parishioner. Attending mass, reciting the rosary, and prayer were always significant in her life. If Eileen learned of a need for prayer she would spring into action and offer her prayers for the healing and well being of others.
She loved music and the theatre. As she aged, trips to see live musicals turned into the talented singers and dancers of The Lawrence Welk Show sounding on her television on any given Saturday evening. Eileen's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, starting from her role as a daughter, a sister, and a niece, and ending in her role as a great grandmother. If you talked to Eileen you couldn't help but feel the love she had for all of the people in her life.
She will be greatly missed by her loving family and is survived by her sons Brian
E. O'Byrne, M.D. (Anne) of Idaho Falls, ID, Kevin M. O'Byrne (Paula) of Mercerville, NJ, Shawn D. O'Byrne of Idaho Falls, ID, Timothy T. O'Byrne of Ferndale, MI, and Edward John O'Byrne (Roxanne) of Yardley, PA. She was a loving "Nana" to Mary Eileen, Christine, Karen, Michael, Kyle, Lauren, Shana,
and Alayna O'Byrne.
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 18, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Church 752 Big Oak Road, Morrisville, PA 19067. Interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery, River Road, Yardley, PA 19067. Calling hours will be held at the church before mass from 9:30am to 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or ASPCA.
Arrangements are under the care of the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Avenue Yardley, PA 19067. Condolences for the family can be left at www.fitzgeraldsommerfuneralhome.com.
