Obituary of Marguerite W. Kenney

Please share a memory of Marguerite to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marguerite Walsh Kenney, a woman of remarkable strength, selflessness, and love, passed away peacefully on November 4th, 2024 at the age of 98. She was the beloved matriarch of a large and loving family and leaves behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and devotion that inspired all who knew her. Born in Philadelphia and the eldest of five siblings, Marguerite learned early on the value of family, hard work, and sacrifice. After her father's sudden passing, she helped care for her family, supporting her mother and siblings through difficult times. Despite graduating near the top of her class in 1944, Marguerite went to work to help make ends meet. In 1954, Marguerite married Joseph S. Kenney, and together as "Sarge & Marge," they raised six children. She used to say, "she married up," but the reality was that Joseph married up. The family lived in Drexel Hill and later Yardley, PA, where Marguerite single handedly raised her children following the sudden death of her husband. Marguerite was known for her strong work ethic, dedication, and infectious spirit. For over 40 years, she worked as a sales associate at Macy's at the Oxford Valley Mall, retiring at the age of 88. Marguerite relished the passing conversations and visits from customers and friends alike. For many years, Marguerite also volunteered as an election official and was very active at St. Ignatius Parish. She had a unique gift to make friends wherever she went and to keep them throughout her life. Above all, Marguerite embodied love. She was devoted to her family and her faith. She is survived by her six children: Kathleen, Joseph (Kerry), John (Kathryn), Lucy, Gerard (Monica), and Maureen (David) as well as thirteen grandchildren: Meghan, John, Kaitlyn, Liam, John, Stephen, Marguerite, Carolyn, Fenian, John, Kathleen, Moira, Siobhan and five great grandchildren: Aidan, Lilly, Nolan, Emerson, and Molly. She was predeceased by her parents Maurice Walsh and Beatrice (nee Bones), her husband Joseph, and her siblings Frances, Joseph, John and Kathleen. Marguerite also leaves behind her dear friends at Pickering Manor. Friends may call on Friday November 8, 2024 from 8:30am to 10:15am at the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 S. Delaware Avenue, Yardley, PA. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am at St. Ignatius Church, 999 Reading Avenue in Yardley. Burial will be at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA. Marguerite's legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
