1) Fred Fisher’s Eulogy Fed,2,2017
Dear: Ruthanne, Michael, Loren, family and friends of Fred Fisher. Thank you for this opportunity to say a few words, about my friend Fred.
I’ve offend wondered how older folks in their 80,s and 90,s bear the loss of their family and friends. It occurs to me, that part of it might be the acceptance that life is about change.
When I exchange smiles with those folks, I see in many of them humility, and a deep sense of appreciation, and the gratitude that comes from being filled, with many found memories.
The lives of the people we love, the richness of those memories, run through us, like threads through a tapestry, each memory a part of the fabric and the fiber, which makes each one of us, unique.
There are countless stories and examples of what a loving husband, and father Fred was, he was devoted to both. Ruthanne, will tell you, that Fred was her everything.
But alongside every great man, is a great woman.
Ruthanne your devotion, loyalty, strength, dignity, and commitment to Fred, were his inspiration, for you were his rock.
2)
I used to enjoy it when we’d all go out together, Ruthanne would hear some oldie playing like “Let’s Hang On”, or “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You”, by Franky-vallie and the Four Seasons. She’d drag embarrassed Fred out on the dance floor. You could just see the love they had for each other, as they’d dance along.
I met Fred when I was 12 years old. Fred challenged me to a bike race; I had only won that race, by half of a front wheel length. After the race, Fred invited me over his house; his mom gave us cake and milk.
When I got home I thought to myself, what a good sport. Fred may have barely lost the race that day, but I can tell you, we both gained a friendship for life.
In later years, I was proud to have him, as my best man at my wedding.
If you’d please be patient with me, I’d like to shear with you two personal stories, examples of why I loved the man, and why thinking or Fred will always bring a smile to my face.
Both involved working with Fred. He got me some part time work on a few occasions as a carpenter helper, rough framing houses when I was between jobs and unemployed as a welder.
3)
The first story is an example of Fred’s competitive nature, and his hummer. It involves us both moving extremely heavy rain soaked lumber making numerous trips though the mud, onto the deck of a house. I wasn’t as strong as Fred, so I chose a one point, to lift one at a time on my end, but Fred grabbed two, so I reluctantly did also.
There we were, straining under the weight of this lumber and I could see he was surprised that I was managing my end, but I was also surprised, to see some strain on his face. As we were walking up this slippery ramp, he paused to re-grip and said, “uew ..…” well,…I won’t use the exact wording, (but the jest of it was…, this hurts my small bits…)
So now were both bent over laughing, tears running down our faces with this heavy lumber balanced on our knees, neither one of us willing to drop it, and submit, just red faced, bent over laughing our butts off.
That’s was classic Fred, always meeting adversity with hummer. It’s hard to explain how much fun it was working with someone like that, he was amazingly funny, and quick witted.
The second story, again involves working with Fred, this time under completely different circumstances. It was a Friday in February; we had the day before off, due to a big snow storm. I’m sure that rare day off, was when my son Taylor was conceived.
4) I knew that most would show up to work on Friday for at least the half a day, so they could collect their pay.
It was unbelievably cold. As usual Fred led by example. He gave us each our day’s tasks, and climbed up on the roof with a snow shovel, to clear a work platform off, where he had previously staged wood, and began working on the valley of this the roof.
Fred could use a carpenter’s square to calculate complex formulas, scribbling math on pieces of wood, and would then make complex angled cuts on rafters. He could wield, a worm drive skill saw, with the ease and precision, that one might butter bread.
As noon rolled around everyone had left, Fred told me he was going to work thru lunch, to finish the roof, I said if you’re staying I will too, in case you need something.
My day was miserable; I was in the shade, in this wet building, standing on cold concrete, the snow melting above me, down on my head, down my neck, and back all day. I was shivering cold and completely discussed. To top it off, I’d been correcting the same mistake done four times by someone else.
About 1:45 Fred comes down and looks at me, he can see how visibly frustrated I was.
With a faint smile he say to me, Hey, Harry …question?
Yeah..., What Fred …, He said.., you fill stupid? He started to laugh…, I didn’t find much hummer in it at the time, I said; I feel like a jack ass…he smiled.., you look like one…
5)
Wrap it up bro, hay, you put an emergency change of dry clothes in your truck like I told you, I said, yep. Good, I know a great place just up the road, where we can have some beers, get warm, and have dinner.
When we get there though, first thing I want to do is call Ruthanne up, and tell her what were doing so she won’t worry. Sounds good to me Fred…one condition, you let me buy the first round. Ok he said, but after that your moneys no good, so keep it in your wallet, the rest is on me.
So there we were comfortable and dry and the snow started falling gently outside and the first round we toasted to you Ruthanne, so thank you for that.
That’s why it’s such an honor to be here, today because If there’s anything that Ruthanne and Fred’s example has taught me, it’s how to see beauty in wrinkled faces, and the courage and dignity, of imperfect forms, and how fearless love, and hope, and faith can be, when you learn to see with your heart.
So, God willing, I’ll see you later Fred.

I was so saddened to hear of Freddy passing. Fred was a journeymen when I started my apprenticeship. To say I enjoyed working with him is an understatement. He was always willing to teach his craft at the same time making the day fly with his humor. The stories he told!!! So many times I've wanted to reconnect with him and didn't, regretfully.
