I met Marie at Central Catholic High School. We became friends, although I can't exactly remember when since we were not in the same homeroom. Anyway, I was privileged to be invited to her family home one summer and spent a week on their farm. All her siblings were home and it was a fabulous week. I was a city slicker and her family quickly showed me the ways of farm life. Believe me, we got up very early in the morning, set the table for breakfast, and cleaned up afterwards. I did have chores just like the rest of the family.
It wasn't all work, although, I had to do my share. We did find time for fun which I enjoyed with the large family.
Marie's mother was a great cook and I have fond memories of the many meals I shared with them. Of course, we did dishes by hand and there were loads of them.
It wasn't all work, and I remember my time spent with her. After graduation, we went our separate ways, but I always will remember her with great fondness.
