Obituary of Marie Trexler Carr
Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie Trexler Carr, 80, long time Yardley resident, Mom, Nana, Sister, Aunt, Friend, Teammate, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024. Marie was someone special to everyone she met. Smart, classy, sassy, courageous, always speaking her truth. Encouraging others to speak theirs. She will be remembered as this and so much more.
Marie was born on March 12, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA to Richard J. Trexler Jr and Veronica E. (Carr) Trexler, both deceased. After the family moved from Philadelphia to Reading, PA; Marie graduated from Central Catholic High School, began and completed her schooling in nursing, and remained in the medical field throughout her working years.
Marie leaves behind James Layton (husband, separated) of nearly 30 years; and two loving and caring daughters (from marriage to Michael F. Kushmore). Maureen Kushmore and her son Cole (both of Yardley) and Kristine Marie Kushmore (David Gorleski, both of Yardley) and her sons Conor Kushmore Riley (Reston, VA), Colin Kushmore Gorleski (Yardley).
Marie was the middle child and oldest daughter in her family. She had 10 Trexler siblings: her older brothers Richard, Henry, Frank, Art, Tom are all deceased. Her younger brother Charlie (living) of Leesport; Joy, deceased; Ronnie (Gary Lerch) of Temple; Cathy of Wyomissing; and Pat of Birdsboro. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Marie also leaves behind Clare Kramer (Hamilton) her best friend of 50+ years, and many other Yardley, tennis, and Nurses Training, reading friends who will miss her dearly.
Marie led a full and vibrant life, whether it be playing in numerous long-standing tennis groups, where she built and maintained close friendships of her Tennis friends over the decades, spending time outdoors gardening, and hosting cocktail parties for her family, friends and community, or simply relaxing with a cup of tea on her porch. She spent Sundays during the Fall with her girls and their boys, rooting and screaming in support of her beloved Philadelphia Eagles, while enjoying her lovingly homemade chili. And the July timed Breakfast at Wimbledon for the Ladies Championship with her girls, filled with Scones, Tea and Jam. She warmed her home with the sounds of music playing in the background, baking yummy treats for the holidays, and decorating her home at Christmas with meticulously procured decorative nutcrackers and angels that filled up her Christmas tree. She took great pride in creating special traditions for her family that will live on with her daughters and grandsons and beyond. Much like her love of gardening, she cultivated and nourished her friendships, caring for them generously while sharing them with her daughters- who reap the benefits of those in their adult lives. She was known for her annual Open House on Christmas Eve, where she'd open the doors to her friends and family and relish the spontaneous connections built across her friends' groups on that day.
Present for the birth of her 3 grandsons, their Nana made sure to curate a remarkable and unique bond with each of them. She supported their interests and showed up for each of them. Sharing her passions with them was important, cooking and baking, playing tennis with them, getting outside to garden, spending time with them down the shore, or taking a walk on a beautiful day. Nana was a phenomenal grandmother to them.
She also supported her community by volunteering as the President of the Parent Association at The George School, where her daughters and Grandson Conor attended. She also served on the Board of the residential Community where she called home for over 30 years, Sutphin Pines.
Family and friends gathered on October 28th, 2024, to celebrate Marie's life and her lasting impact on our lives.
We will always remember her beautiful smile, kindness, and her willingness to help others. She will leave a legacy of kindness that, everyone touched by her love, will remember.
